Nas For Mac 2016
Most Mac friendly environments encourage time machine, and I personally don't mind it. However, due to the nature of my company, cloud based solutions aren't 'acceptable'. We do not run Mac servers as a whole either, but hope to get some out eventually to help with our quickly Mac growing environments. Best Sellers in Computer Network Attached Storage #1. Now what happens is that if i try to open the files, directly from the NAS using finder, the spinning wheel appears. It opens Microsoft Excel, but the program just hangs, and i have to right click and shut excel down, after that Finder hangs, and i have to reboot to get the system to work again. If i copy the excel file from the NAS to the Desktop on the mac, if opens fine? This happens on all 3 mac´s running latest version of sierra 10.12 beta i have the latest versions of Microsoft Excel for MAC installed, and my synology has the latest firmware installed? Does anyone have any ideas? Sincerely Carsten Larsen.
We installed 8 TB WD Red drives in each NAS, connected each model via Gigabit Ethernet to a Netgear Orbi router, and connected a desktop PC with Gigabit Ethernet to another port. We used Windows 10’s built-in Robocopy file-copying tool to read and write three datasets to each NAS: a 32 GB music folder with 6,154 MP3 files, and a folder with two large files, an 8.1 GB MKV file and a 7.07 GB Linux ISO file. We ran each test nine times in each direction: three times with encryption turned off, three times with disk or folder encryption turned on, and three times with in-flight SMB encryption turned on. To simulate drive failure, we pulled a drive from the NAS while it was running. A NAS should beep or flash an LED to alert you that something is wrong, and the interface should show a drive-failure notification. If the NAS allows you to set up SMS or email alerts, that’s even better.

People love the idea of a NAS for the very sharing you think you are doing (more on that later) but browsing this forum will reveal no shortage of posts about NAS issues with iTunes which people cannot explain. Realize that while any computer can access this library only one computer can do so at a time. Because you have it set up so there is only one copy of the library file that file can only be open by one computer at a time. If that works for you then fine.

Internet Explorer 11 is a Windows web browser from Microsoft, but those running OS X on a Mac can also use Internet Explorer 11 through a great free service called ModernIE from Microsoft. It was a dark day for the rebellion.
In our case, our logins, if not cached, can take a very long time. RE: Exchange - I use OS X mail to connect with Exchange and it's pretty solid. The Calendar can sometimes be a bit funny. Exchange is the best mail server out there.

Moved the iTunes folder with everything onto the NAS under Music/iTunes Held down ALT-Key when starting iTunes and then I choose the Music/iTunes and then it took a few minutes and computer asked if it should copy all the files so I said yes here. This does not sound right. It should not need to copy anything.
Many NAS devices have even added photo-management tools and file-syncing services that attempt to replicate various cloud storage offerings. While those NAS tools aren’t as feature-rich as commercial services from Google, Apple, and others, they can at least provide an adequate alternative to pricey subscriptions. You should consider a NAS if you have more than one computer at home, since you can back them all up to the NAS rather than connect an external drive to each computer. Most NAS devices can also act as email, database, and virtual private network (VPN) servers.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the file tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
The My Cloud Home Duo needs to be connected to the Internet if you want to use all its features, even within your home network. You’re also required to use the software to mount a user directory on the My Cloud Home Duo, and it needs an Internet connection to do so, for some reason.
Trust us – backup your files! Did the method above work for you? Do you have any suggestion to make things simpler?
These accounts cost nothing and give others access to whatever files they need without requiring you to send them or upload them. Account holders can also upload their own files to the NAS, allowing for easy collaboration. To share files without requiring a login, programs like QNAP’s can send a unique URL which, when clicked by the recipient, automatically downloads files from your NAS device. Don’t waste time waiting for downloads Downloading large files sometimes entails leaving your Mac running for hours while you wait for the download to finish. NAS devices allow you to download even when your computer is off or isn’t connected to the Internet. Set a download before heading to work, and it loads directly onto your personal cloud.

I tried a few things but no success. Can you help? Incidentally, I also sent them a message.
A network-attached storage device, or NAS, is a small always-on computer generally used for backing up computers and serving files to devices on your local network. It includes at least one but usually two (or more) hard-drive bays, a (usually) Linux-based operating system optimized for network storage, and enough CPU power and RAM to do everything it needs to do while using far less power than a repurposed old computer. Unlike a USB drive or an external hard drive, a NAS with two or more hard drives can provide data redundancy, copying the contents of one drive over to the other automatically. A NAS is great if you have a large media library, because you can store your files in one place and stream them locally to computers, phones, tablets, speakers, or media centers throughout your house (or even outside it).
If a given NAS is offered in both pre-populated and diskless form, we suggest checking out the cost difference and making sure that the drives that are provided in the populated model work out to a good value. With pre-populated-only NAS drives from Seagate and WD, the cost of the internal drives tends to be harder to distinguish from the cost of the NAS unit. Which Drives to Use Inside Your NAS?
For this reason, i don't do this, i use Carbon Copy Cloner to run to a disk image (dmg) every night. I use MediaRover to sync iTunes libraries, and this works fine. Other iTunes support is available (an iTunes/DAAP server called Firefly), but i haven't used it. It has a BitTorrent server built in, but again, i haven't used it. Administration is very easy (web based), setup is not difficult, but there are several steps to add disks, format them, create a RAID array, create a mount point, enable the services (AFP or SMB) to access. Documentation and community support are satisfactory.
Remember, I am already connected to the share using my username/password, my account has read/write access to the share, and Word 2016 has no problems saving.docx files to that share - JUST PDFs. Also remember, Word 2011 works fine as does Excel 2016 when saving PDFs to that private share. Obviously Word 2016 has some weird thing going on where it’s not seeing that it has proper permissions to the share - BUT JUST WHEN CREATING PDFs - preventing it from writing PDFs (or maybe a temp file it creates in the PDF process) to the share. Any Microsoft gurus care to weigh in on how I can get this elevated and fixed? It puts a severe crimp in my workflow. Given that you replied to this thread, I assume you're trying to write the PDF directly to the network share.

I remember, many moons ago, getting my first Iomega ZIP drive, the one that could read from and write to 100MB diskettes (if you're of the same vintage as me, then you'll also remember the revolutionary pass-through printer parallel port these drives used). I was in geek heaven, and I really did think that this would be the last storage device that I'd ever need.
