Do I still need the update? If you have uninstalled QuickBooks, you will not be affected by these vulnerabilities. If you have installed multiple versions of QuickBooks, you will be vulnerable if any identified version is still installed. Uninstalling all identified versions of the software will remove the vulnerability from your system. Round tripping is a term used for the process of sending a QuickBooks for Mac file to an accountant with QuickBooks for Windows. Due to the difference in the type of database that each program uses, there is not an Accountant's Copy feature available in QuickBooks for Mac. As a result, round tripping is sometimes necessary in order for an accountant to make changes to a Mac client's company file. Starting in QuickBooks for Mac, this is the basic flow: • Client saves a Back Up to QuickBooks for Windows. • Backup file is transferred to the accountant, preferably using a secure transfer method. • The accountant makes changes as needed and uses Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac, which is then transferred back to the client.

Updated August 10th, 2014: If the past is any indication of what’s to come on the future, then we are pretty much certain on when the new QuickBooks 2015 versions of Pro, Premier, Mac, and Home & Business will be released. We’ve been monitoring Intuit’s QuickBooks releases for the last ten years or so and don’t expect any dramatic changes in their release date cycle.

• The update includes password controls to verify that the person attempting to access an account is authorized. Intuit expects all customers to install the necessary security updates. • All users who have the 'credit card protection' feature on, or have credit card data in their QuickBooks company file, will be asked to set up a password. • Furthermore, the administrator account holder will be notified if users have not set up a password. This will give the administrator account holder the ability to recommend that users create a password, or to assign a password directly to these users. This will enable you to enhance security by requiring that all users with access to the system use appropriate security credentials. • Customers using QuickBooks in multi-user mode will need to ensure that all users are on a supported version of QuickBooks and have installed the security update in order to address the security vulnerability.

Security Account passwords to protect sensitive information • All users who have the 'Credit Card Protection' feature on, or whose QuickBooks Desktop file contains sensitive data such as credit card data and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) will be asked to set up a password. • All users who have the 'Credit Card Protection' feature on and can view full credit card data will be asked to your change password every 90 days. • This does not impact QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. Security updates to QuickBooks SDK • SDK apps that require background access to QuickBooks will need to have credentials regenerated for the app. Credentials will get regenerated once users who need access to the app login to QuickBooks. • If the password for QuickBooks changes, a new application is added or access levels of an application are changed – this would also require users who need app access to login. As for me, I will sit by a few days, a week or so, perhaps even longer before I update one of my systems to see if all goes OK, before I recommend it to either my clients or my readers.

Cons Hard to find certain features: Despite recent updates, the QuickBooks 2015 interface still buries some features, and it can take time to find them. The top-level navigation doesn't quite match up to the home screen 'Getting Around' interface, and it can be frustrating to dig through each menu.
